Believe It Or Not, I'm Getting Married Again!

Buck Wolf/Claudine Majcher Wedding - Doug Levere

I'm not complaining about my first wedding, but the cute little inn didn't even have one six-legged cow for guests to gawk at.

You can bet the world's longest chain of chewing gum wrappers (two-thirds of a mile long) that things will be different today -- and you're invited!

If you find yourself in South Carolina, make it on down to Ripley's Believe It Or Not!, where my wife and I will be the first couple to test the unveiling of the museum's Fertility Statue, be renewing our wedding vows. Ripley's Goggle-Eyed Woman

For those of you who don't know, Claudine and I were married in May (at the Settler's Inn in Hawley, Pa.) and again in September (by an ordained Elvis impersonator in Las Vegas). Here's the press release, as written by my friends at FlashNews:

It’s A Nice Day For A Weird Wedding

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Exchanging vows in front of a fertility statue may leave one couple with their hands full.

Tomorrow (Feb. 6), Buck Wolf of About.com and his bride will be the first couple to tie the knot at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Fertility Statue in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Wireless Flash

The Fertility Statue is an ancient West African artifact that helps women conceive after touching it.

So far, 2,000 women have gotten knocked up after grazing it and now Ripley’s museum is letting couples get married at the statue’s fertile foot.

For $399, lovebirds can get a full wedding package, including music, a justice of peace, and a two-night hotel stay.

Although Wolf is looking forward to his unique marriage ceremony, he’s nervous about the statue’s pregnancy powers.

He says, “If the statue makes my wife too fertile and we end up with octuplets, that’ll be no laughing matter. Don’t get me wrong, one baby would be great, but more than five and my wife and I would have to live at Ripley’s permanently as one of the attractions.”

Come back later today (or early tomorrow) for wedding pictures!

What Claudine endures on behalf of Weird News! Congratulations on the renewal of your vows in Myrtle Beach. Afterwards, I’d suggest going from the ridiculous to the sublime with a visit to the stunningly lovely Brookgreen Gardens (America’s first public sculpture garden) and then dinner nearby at one of the many fine restaurants in Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina’s seafood capital. Or would you prefer turducken?

That sounds like the perfect wedding location to me. Personally, I would love to get married at Alcatraz, but the boyfriend would never agree to it.

Linda — Claudine was really a good sport to go along with this . . . But she actually fell in love with the African-style robe in which she married me in, and is ordering one for herself (and her sister, and my mother) from the company that makes it in Tampa.
