How many football games end with players from neither side involved in the most controversial play?
Instead, fans would be talking about mascot-on-mascot violence, instigated by a short-tempered man in a duck suit.
The fur and feathers began to fly Sept. 1, when the University of Oregon Duck tackled and pummeled Shasta, the University of Houston Cougar, in a 20-second video that became a YouTube sensation.
This birdbrain took offense to his rival imitating his trademark move -- doing a push-up for every point each time his side score.
Really, who knows proper mascot etiquette? Some might have thought the fight had been staged, but after the game, league officials slapped the duck with a one-game suspension.
The move vindicated Houston mascot Matt Stolt, who had to explain why he took the beating without fighting back. As he told his school newspaper, The Daily Cougar:
"If you look back at the videos on YouTube, I had my hands up. I'm not fighting. I'm not the one causing a bunch of problems. The Duck just got out of hand."
