A 45-year-old jobless ex-con from Taiwan asked police to send him back to jail. He'd been free two years, after serving a 10-year sentence. The convicted arsonist, who'd been living on the street, told police he was hungry.

Reversing a Penis Amputation

A 49-year-old prisoner at Washington's Monroe Correctional Complex attempted for the second time to cut off his penis. Using a razor blade, the convicted murderer cut off what remained of his genitalia, which he had, in part, removed several years ago. He was taken to a hospital, where doctors will attempt to reattach his mutilated organ.

Pay for Toilet Paper?

Another sign of a bad economy: An Iowa prison considers charging inmates for toilet paper as a way to deal with a large budget deficit.
