Oprah, Elvis & Other Pop Icons Turned Into 'Barcode Art'

Elvis Barcode ArtThe Queen of Daytime TV and The King have finally met.

Artist Scott Blake has been turning pop icons, cultural figures, world leaders and rock stars into unique works of art -- unique because these giant portraits are made entirely out of barcodes.

"I started with Jesus," he told AOL Weird News. "And I knew I'd go on to all those legends whom we know just by their first name -- Elvis, Madonna, Marilyn.

"I figured you had to choose Oprah after Jesus because she's more biblical than any other celebrity," he said.

And because the images are made of barcodes, they can all be scanned.

The codes in the Oprah image, for example, are all from books that were selections from her book club.

See Elvis and Oprah in my Ripley's World of the Bizarre gallery, and check out more barcode art and other, even stranger, images in my Weird Art Photo Collection.

This is just a variation on a theme and is very tiresome. ASCII art has been around since the early days of computing. Does this guy think he’s done something special here? Am I missing something?
