Chestnut Wins Coney Island Hot Dog Contest (I Was Wrong)
Congratulations, Joey Chestnut! You are now the three-time hot dog eating champ.
I'll be eating crow this July 4th, having predicted yesterday that Patrick Bertoletti of Chicago, the No. 2 eater in the world would surprise everyone.
Bertoletti came in third, right behind second place finisher Takeru Kobayashi.
Chestnut downed a record-setting 68 hot dogs in ten minutes to set a new Coney Island record.
"I knew I had the capacity for 70+ hot dogs," he told ESPN, slightly disappointed with the results.
What's more amazing is that no person had ever topped 25 hot dogs at the Coney Island event until 2001, when Takeru started competing. In one year, he doubled the world record, and since then we've seen no ceiling to what humans can do.
