Louis Tussaud's Unveils Wax Obama
Conservatives have called him a socialist, a fascist, and a soft-on-terror wimp who buddies up to creeps like Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
Liberals complain that he has hedged on his pledge for a quick drawdown in Iraq, failed to enact a windfall profits tax on oil companies, and hasn't backed away from the Bush Administration's domestic wiretapping policy.
Welcome to the White House, President Obama.
As Bob Dylan said of most U.S. presidents, "Most of those guys come into office with the best of intentions and leave as beaten men."
Dylan, who hasn't mentioned a political figure in decades, has taken an interest in Obama, although he has "no idea" whether he'll be a good president.
But as Bob says in his interview with Bill Flanagan, he just loves Obama's book, Dreams of My Father.
"He says profoundly outrageous things," Dylan says. "He's looking at a shrunken head inside of a glass case in some museum with a bunch of other people and he's wondering if any of these people realize that they could be looking at one of their ancestors."
I can't help but reflect on that moment as Louis Tussaund's unveils its wax figure of President Obama as part of its Hall of Presidents.
Why do most presidents leave office as beaten men? Dylan says, "It's like they fly too close to the sun and get burned."
Dylan, of course, is referring to Icarus, the figure in Greek mythology, who escapes from Crete on wings of wax, only to crash and die, when he soars too close to the sun.
Does this mean Obama's ego will melt under the intense heat of the Oval Office. Maybe I just can't wait for Dylan's new album. It'll be out in just a few days.
