Don't Make Way for the April Fools' Parade
The theme of this year's April Fools' Day Parade is, "Take the Money and Run."
As founder Joey Skaggs describes it in a press release, controversial celebrity look-a-likes, including Bernard Madoff, Joe The Plumber, Sarah Palin, Octo-Mom, and a bong- smoking Michael Phelps, will be marching to Union Square.
For confetti, a U.S. Treasury float will fill the air with worthless dollar bills as a chorus of shamed Wall Street types sing, "Money (That's What I Want)."
Of course, this parade exists only in Joey Skaggs' minds. For more than 20 years, Joey has been sending out bogus press releases of an April Fool's day parade, just to see how many lazy, gullible journalists will show up.
Joey is an American original, and one day soon I'll catch you up on his pranks, which I wrote about extensively at ABCNews.com.
These days, Joey's running an Art-of-the-Prank blog, and I only expect great things from this one-of-a-kind media artist. See you at the parade!
Update: Joey emailed me midday to let me know that Slovenia TV swallowed his April Fools Parade news release hook, line and sinker. So did New York City all-news radio station 1010 WINS, which has been announcing the parade every 20 minutes.
