Feasting on George Clooney-Flavored Tofu

By March 12, 2009

George Clooney It's a down home recipe: Take one sweaty bath towel used by George Clooney, wring it over fresh tofu, and -- Voila! -- you've spared the life of an animal.

PETA President Ingrid Newkirk says she came up with this dish -- affectionately dubbed "CloFu" -- after the animal rights group was offered the star's towel by a D.C. gym.

Newkirk says the original plan was to auction off the celebrity souvenir. Instead, the sweaty bean curd dish has become PETA's latest bid for outrageous publicity.

Clooney offered up mock outrage to The Washington Post: "As a mammal, I'm offended."

I’ve defended many of PETA’s wacky publicity stunts over the years because they brought attention to important animal rights issues. But I can’t defend this one. This is just a publicity grab on PETA’s part, and has nothing to do with helping anmals.
