Nowhere to Sit: Trent Lott's Porch Story
Trent Lott has lost more than his seat in the Senate – since Hurricane Katrina, his Gulf Coast mansion has been without a front porch. And one Web documentarian won’t take this outrage sitting down.
As the Mississippi Republican retires after 35 years Congress, a web documentary (via New York Times Laugh Lines), recalls the sad story of what happened to that sacred spot where the Happy Warrior sipped his mint juleps.
“We’ve got a lot of rebuilding to do,” said President Bush, when he launched his “Heck of job, Brownie” post Katrina tour.
“The good news is . . . out of this chaos is going to come a fantastic Gulf Coast. Out of the rubbles of Trent Lott’s house (this guy lost his entire house) there is going to be a fantastic house.”
More than two years after Katrina, Lott’s wicker swing still has no place to rock – and, for some, this might be one of the tragedy’s more poignant stories.
